A resort wardrobe fails most often through excess. The suitcase contains enough clothing and still cannot solve breakfast, heat, pool, lunch, walking, dinner and the journey home without repeated negotiation.
The correction is structure: fewer pieces with multiple lives, materials suited to climate and accessories capable of changing the register without multiplying outfits.
Build around three daily functions
Start with heat, transition and evening. A linen shirt can work over swimwear, with shorts or trousers and under a light jacket. A dress can move from day to dinner when the fabric and neckline allow it. A fine knit or lightweight layer handles air-conditioned interiors and cooler evenings.
If an item has only one highly specific resort role, it should earn that space clearly.
Fabric carries the climate
Linen, cotton voile, silk, lightweight wool and breathable blends can work well because they manage heat while retaining enough structure for public spaces. The weave, opacity and recovery matter as much as the fibre name.
Very thin fabric can become transparent or lose shape quickly. Heavy synthetic shine can feel visually and physically wrong in heat.
One evening piece can organise the suitcase
For men, an unstructured jacket or refined trouser can raise several shirts and polos. For women, a composed dress, evening trouser or controlled layer can create the same leverage.
Protect the evening piece from crushing and choose it early enough that the rest of the packing can support it.
Accessories create range
A good sandal, useful tote, silk scarf, hat and one jewellery story can alter simple clothing repeatedly. Raffia can be excellent when its seasonality is understood. Leather remains useful when weight and heat are considered.
Colour should respond to light
Ivory, white, cool grey, navy and black create the structural base. Forest, deep blue or controlled garnet can add depth without competing with bright surroundings. The objective is not a resort palette. It is a suitcase whose colours combine without calculation.

THE GRAY CRAB view
A resort suitcase should feel edited before it feels full. Range comes from relationships between pieces, not from quantity.
